About Owner:
We are a family of 5 in beautiful Judbury, looking to build a relationship with a reliable, local house sitter who can become our "go-to" person for when we head North to visit family or take our kids on camping adventures. We had a wonderful sitter but she's off overseas for new adventures so it's time to find someone new.
Because our home and small farm have specific systems and quirks, we
we are looking for someone who would love to return semi regularly, get to know our land, and enjoy a quiet retreat in the heart of the Huon Valley.
The Property
Our home is a charming, private weatherboard house set on a hilltop with stunning views.
The Vibe: Peaceful, quiet, and private.
Connectivity:House has power and Starlink internet is provided. Note: There is no mobile reception, but we use Wi-Fi calling.
Amenities: Three bedrooms, heat pump, and a fireplace (wood provided).
Location: 15 minutes to Huonville; 40 minutes to Hobart, Cygnet, and Geeveston.
What We Need
We are looking for someone with an interest in, or experience with, a self-sufficient lifestyle. We will provide a thorough handover, and we’d love for you to visit us before our first trip so you can get comfortable with our routines.
The Farm Crew (Our animals are our family!):
Dogs: One medium-sized dog who loves company (she can be a jumper!). She sleeps in her crate indoors at night and loves a couch cuddle.
Cats: Two cats who need twice-daily feeding and must be locked in at night for their safety.
Chickens: Four flocks to manage, including letting them out, feeding/watering, egg collection, and tucking them in at night.
Rabbit: Food, water, and simple maintenance for his enclosure.
Bees: We have an active apiary; you won't need to manage them, but this position is unfortunately not suitable for anyone with a bee allergy.
The Gardens:
We have extensive food gardens that provide us with produce. The golden rule: The gates must be closed immediately after entering/exiting, or our local possum population will have a feast! Some watering may be needed depending on time of year.
House Systems:
Our old farmhouse has personality! We need someone who is handy and pays attention to detail—specifically, our toilet system requires a manual tap-on/tap-off sequence to fill the cistern properly or it can trip out the pump.
What We Offer
A peaceful retreat: A beautiful, quiet space to disconnect and recharge.
Home-grown goodness: Access to fresh produce from our gardens when in season.
Flexibility: We will have a room ready, but if you have your own self-contained van/setup, that is also very welcome.
A lasting connection: We hope to build a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship with someone we can trust or if a one off we need someone who can visit before we head off.
About You
You are a reliable, animal-loving human who enjoys the slow pace of rural life. You aren't phased by "quirky" house systems, you have experience with animals, and you understand the importance of keeping a garden safe from wildlife.
Interested?
If this sounds like your kind of break, please send us a message! Tell us a little bit about yourself, your experience with animals/gardening, and why you think you’d be a great fit for our home. We’d love to arrange a time for you to meet us and the animals soon.
